At the annual conference World Expression Forum next week, UTSYN will chair a session on «The Marginalization of Moderates».

When positions harden, dialogue becomes more difficult, and isolation can deepen. Today, boycotts and social exclusion are increasingly used as tools for moral signaling – but at what cost to democratic culture and public discourse?

On Monday June 1st the annual conference World Expression Forum (WEXFO) takes place at Lillehammer, and UTSYN’s director Ingrid Vik will chair a session on «The Marginalization of Moderates» with speakers Yuval Shany (professor of International Law) and Sharon Ben-Arie (Head of Diversity & Inclusion, Hebrew University).

The session explores the mechanisms of »canceling» and the growing pressure to sever ties rather than build bridges. The conversation examines what happens to the seekers of nuance when contact across divides is treated as betrayal. How do we sustain the courage to stay in the room when the world demands we walk out?

The WEXFO program features global voices including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Ressa, journalist and filmmaker Louis Theroux, and Megan Phelps‑Roper, alongside experts, activists, journalists and young leaders from across the world.
